Asah: Creativity and Prayer Studio
It all started when…
In the early summer of 2021, I (Megan) noticed that Randell Neudorf had come on staff with GOHOP and that he was a fellow visual artist. I was curious to see if we could collaborate on an art and prayer ministry, so I reached out.
We got along well and soon dreamed up the idea of a monthly gathering where we would find ways to stretch prayer practices towards creativity and art practices towards prayer. That is how Asah: Creativity and Prayer Studio was born!
We chose the name Asah, which is a transliteration of a Hebrew wording meaning ‘to do/to work/to make.’ It is used in the creation story to describe the ‘bearing’ fruit of trees. We love the making & generative connotations of the word.
Since then Asah has been a regular GOHOP ministry, gathering on the 4th Monday of the month. We have seen a lovely flexible core group of people participating, with almost always a few new faces at the table.
From collage to painting, or drawing outside to dying eggs, we have explored together so many ways to encounter God through creativity and prayer. God has made each one of us in His image. We are creative like He is. It is deeply restorative to meet him and give back to him out of this place of creativity.
